☀️ TWEEKLY Spotlight ☀️
Mike McGill — @mcgillmd921
In this TWEEKLY Spotlight, I caught up with the Stoic guy, Mike McGill. Mike is a CIO, content creator, blogger, author of the Mindset Blueprint newsletter, and a huge Cleveland sports fan.
Mike has been working with technology for 25 years. He started his IT journey after graduating from Cleveland State University in 2000 with a B.S., Computer Information Science, Information Technology. Mike grew up without computers and recalls his first experience didn’t occur until a high school computer class!
After graduating college, Mike entered the professional technology world. For twenty years, he worked his way up the ranks, starting as a Network Administrator, then a senior Systems Analyst, Systems Manager, until ultimately Chief Information Officer at Medical Services Company.
When it comes to technology, Mike thinks it is the problem-solving aspect that really motivates him. He loves to be creative and feels that using technology in innovative ways can help solve real-world problems for people.
Mike is very happy with how his technology journey has progressed. He told me that it’s not really about titles or compensation anymore. He wakes up every day and is motivated by solving complex problems alongside some of the smartest people he knows.
Mike also is motivated to share his journey and learnings with anyone that will listen. He is the author of the Mindset Blueprint newsletter which aims to help professionals rethink their mindset and level up their performance. Mike also has an incredible blog with over three years of evergreen content covering topics including Stoicism, professional development, motivation, and much more.
I asked Mike what was one thing that surprised him during his journey in tech. He was surprised to find that being a technology professional isn’t isolating at all. You don’t sit in a cubicle for 8 hours a day writing code and not speaking to people. In fact, he’s found it’s the opposite. Mike was grateful to find that IT is really all about people and their demands and needs. He’s really valued all of the people he has networked with along the way.
In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 kids. He also enjoys creating content in his newsletter, blog, Tech Twitter, and is currently writing a book called The IT Leadership Blueprint that aims to help IT professionals reach their full career potential. Mike is also a huge advocate for Stoicism.
One thing that became clear during our conversations is that Mike is a true leader. Mike invites critical thought, discussion, and motivates people around him to be better versions of themselves. He is incredibly passionate about helping people reach their full potential. Make sure you follow Mike on Twitter!
